Waders and Boots

Have you ever wondered what gear I use out on the river?  What books does Jason have on his shelf that inspire him?  Well, here it is.

This is a list of the different gear and resources I use to enjoy my time on the water.

Some of these are affiliate links, which means if you buy through them, WadeOutThere earns a small commission for the referral, at no extra cost to you. “As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.” Even if you click the link to buy boots and end up buying a fly rod, WadeOutThere earns that commission.  Using these helps grow WadeOutThere and supports my art – many thanks.

Everything here is gear that I use and believe in.  That’s the way it will always be at WadeOutThere.

Recommended Waders

Good waders last for years, keep you dry, and feel comfortable to move in. They help us wade the river year round, keeping us warm in the colder months when wet wading isn’t possible. That means more time on the water and more progress in our fishing.

Orvis Ultralight Waders

These waders are lightweight but durable thanks to the four layer breathable nylon shell. They also convert nicely into waist high, which is great for warmer weather and for when you’ve had too much coffee on the way to the river. I’ve traveled all over the country with these waders and they’ve never let me down.

Recommended Boots

Having the right footwear on the water is important because we need to feel comfortable and confident with the time we have on the water.

Simms Freestone Wading Boot

These boots are rugged and fairly lightweight for how durable they are. I prefer the rubber soles over the felt, since some states don’t allow felt. Make sure you round up and add a size. Tight boots are a sure way to cold feet.

Astral TR Mesh 2.0 Hiking Shoe

When I’m wet wading in the summer, I don’t always want waders, and I don’t always want my wading boots either. These shoes are for being on the river. The mesh construction, and removable insole helps the shoe dry quickly. The shoe is comfortable when hiking and the rubber sole has good grip. These are my go-to summertime wet-wading shoe.
